Unless your time is cheap, or you are dogmatically idealistic, get a Mac
and a copy of the Pro version of Logic Studio. You can have a professional
recording system set up and working in less than a day. Any time you spend
after that is time spent learning the software.
I was in the Mac store this last weekened and was blown away to see how
far Logic Studio has come. Apparently the current version comes with one
of "The Killers" latest songs. Every track, instrument, rythm, timing, etc
is carefully laid out in a click and drag interface. It is the closest
thing to musical "source code" I have ever seen.
Once you have created beautiful music, upload it to your Linux server so
the rest of us can enjoy it.

and if you value your money just download linux or even grab a copy of
windows xp from some where and that usually solves people's problem.
Windows vista and 7 are still pretty bad compared to xp.<br>
