Because Chuck is making a claim that Logic Studio is the best in breed
music production application. It is his assertion that while similar
results may be possible on other platforms, the ease with which music
can be produced using Logic Studio ensures that for all but the most
advanced Linux users the time/money trade-off falls in favor of using
Logic Studio. By advocating Logic Studio Chuck is advocating the use
of an Apple Macintosh.

Chuck's argument is an example of Linux Torvald's oft quoted advice to
use the "best tool for the job." In this case the "best" tool may be
proprietary.

Running VirtualBox on Ubuntu with the audio packages or UbuntuStudio might be a good solution in this case. I personally use a standard Ubuntu installation and add the UbuntuStudio audio packages separately. VirtualBox (open source edition) works well for an xp host that I need for work purposes.
